Batgirl Star Expresses Hope for Film's Release Despite Initial Shelving: 'Hollywood's a Funny Place'
The shelving of Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah's Batgirl movie three years ago sparked a fan backlash, but one of the stars, Jacob Scipio, remains hopeful for its eventual release. In an interview, Scipio expressed his disappointment, stating, 'I'm really sad the world never got to see it.' However, he draws inspiration from the story of Warner Bros.' decision to save Coyote vs. Acme, which was also finished when the choice was made.
Scipio told The Direct, 'It was great that they saved [Coyote vs. Acme], and I'm gonna have a ticket and be buying my ticket and seeing that movie myself. So there's always hope.' He added, 'Hollywood's a funny place, and I think if enough people want it, it can happen.'
Despite the film being nearly completed, Warner Bros. shelved Batgirl in 2022 as a tax write-off, sparking backlash from fans and the filmmakers. DC Studios co-CEO Peter Safran claimed the movie 'was not releasable' and 'would have hurt DC.' However, the studio's decision to save Coyote vs. Acme in 2023, despite it also being finished, suggests that Warner Bros. may reconsider its stance on Batgirl if there is sufficient public demand.
Lex Briscuso, a film critic and freelance entertainment writer for IGN, concludes the article, hoping that Batgirl will follow Coyote vs. Acme's path to a theatrical release. The article also mentions that the film is not yet available for streaming.
